What does autumn mean to you? For us, fall pastimes include apple orchards, watching football, raking leaves, baking treats, corn mazes, trick-or-treating, and, of course, pumpkins. If you’re looking to start a new fall tradition this year, throw a pumpkin carving party!
A pumpkin carving party is a low-key, kid-friendly gathering that’s easy to plan and pull off. Better yet: this is a party that’s best held outside, making for quick cleanup. Our party rental gear will help you execute your pumpkin party with ease.
How to Throw a Pumpkin Carving Party
- Pumpkins (obviously)
- Carving utensils, spoons and bowls
- Sheet pans (for seeds)
- Extra tables to give guests extra carving space
- Disposable tablecloths for easy cleanup
- Stencils or photos for inspiration, and markers to sketch designs
- Paints and brushes in case kids (or grown-ups) want to paint instead of carve
Serve both a hot and cold beverage option (keep drinks warm in our 5-gallon thermo vat) and look for festive treats, such as pumpkin bars or cookies. A few other easy food ideas we like: strawberry ghosts, 7-layer spider web dip, mummy brie or a skeleton veggie tray.
Prizes and Preservation
If you want to award prizes for pumpkin carving, think of fun categories like scariest, silliest, best kids, and best overall. To preserve carved pumpkins, soak them in a bath made of 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water. You can also make a mix of water and vinegar and give the pumpkins a good spritz. (Many websites recommend a bleach bath, but that’s not safe for critters that might try to snack on your pumpkin.)
